The reasons for the destruction of the people of Thamud;

Disbelief in Allah

Selections from the Book Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) and the Reasons for the Destruction of the People of Thamud

Written by Dr. Ali Muhammad al-Sallabi...

Episode  (13)

One of the most significant reasons for divine punishment and the downfall of the civilization established by the tribe of Thamud was their disbelief in Allah. Disbelief is the opposite of faith, which is belief, conviction, and acknowledgment of the oneness of Allah, His lordship, divinity, belief in angels, the divine law, the message of Salih (peace be upon him), the Day of Judgment, and destiny—both its good and its bad—from Allah the Almighty.

The people of Thamud rejected Salih’s (peace be upon him) call to monotheism and Allah’s messages, disbelieving in them and fighting against them. Allah described them as disbelievers, as stated in His words: {As if they had never prospered therein. Unquestionably, Thamud denied ‎their Lord; then, away with Thamud.} [Hud: 68]‎.

The description of the people of Thamud as disbelievers indicates that, during that historical period, they were detached from religion and distant from the obligations of divine law and the path of Allah Almighty. This led to arrogance, oppression, and moral corruption. Thus, Allah’s divine law was fulfilled upon them for various reasons, including their disbelief in Him, and His punishment befell them through a mighty blast, an earthquake, a thunderbolt, and a devastating calamity.
