One of the characteristics of Noah (peace be upon him) was his frequent supplication to his Lord, as mentioned in various Quranic passages. Among his supplications that we have discussed in previous pages are:
- {And [mention] Noah, when he called [to Allah] before [that time], so We responded to him and saved him and his family from the great affliction [i.e., the flood].} [Al-Anbya: 76].
- {He said, "My Lord, indeed my people have denied me. (117) Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers." (118)} [Ash-Shu'ara: 117-118].
- He also asked Allah to grant him victory over his people: {He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me."} [Al-Mu'minun: 39].
- And Allah Almighty said: {So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."} [Al-Qamar: 10].
- He also said: {[Noah] said, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers."} [Hud: 47].
- And He said: {And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].'"} [Al-Mu'minun: 29].
- Noah also said: {My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction."} [Nuh: 28].
One of the reasons for blessings and prosperity, as well as the alleviation of hardship and affliction, is turning to Allah Almighty in supplication. He has commanded His servants to call upon Him and has promised them a response, and His promise is true. Allah Almighty says: {And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.} [Ghafir: 60]. He, the Almighty, has commanded us to direct our desires toward Him and rely upon Him, guaranteeing us a response by granting us what we seek, for He is the Absolute Generous who answers the call of the supplicant when he calls upon Him.
In the story of Noah (peace be upon him), his strong attachment to supplicating his Lord is evident. Supplication was one of the most significant means he used to achieve Allah's victory. He sought refuge in Allah and relied on His protection, without depending solely on material causes. He turned to Allah in prayer, knowing that supplication is one of the most powerful weapons of victory. The Holy Qur’an has recorded for us the forms of supplication that Noah (peace be upon him) made and how Allah responded to him.
